Have A Question But Don't Know Where To Post...

This may be completely off any topic on this entire forum, but I'm interested in some houses that are "for sale to be moved" in my area - the whole southern end of my town has been rezoned and someone has bought a ton of houses in the area and obviously wants to get rid of them to build new commercial buildings. Some of them are kinda run down, but some of them are just beautiful - I want to buy one or two to put on empty lots I own.

I don't know what a "good deal" would be (if there would be one) or how much it would cost to move a house (is it worth it? Or should I just build?). I have searched the web extensively, but the only site I've found is an advertising site for house movers (unfortunately, I had to sift through a lot of moving van companies in the UK - it seems that "moving house" in British English means to relocate...).

This has been a great forum where I have found many answers to questions regarding acquiring tax deed properties, and so I turned here.

Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

That is a very interesting question. I have no experience or any real assistance to offer you, but I have a feeling it is very expensive.

This forum is the wrong place to post this question, since it is usually used for web site questions/problems related to TCI. I recommend you move this post to the beginner's forum, as most of the experienced residents at TCI read the threads there.

    Hello,

I went to http://www.switchboard.com and found this:
    B J Swink Excavation & House Moving
    2010 N Sunshine Rd
    Fayetteville, AR 72704-6302 Phone: (479) 444-7782

I've bought land before with older homes on it, conventional foundation. Not worth much, but looked into moving them - anywhere from $15,000 to $20,000 in my area. Just wasn't worth it to me. Hated to, but it only cost me about $1000 to bull doze 'em.

    Good Luck,
    Terry

You are right this is the wrong forum and if I could move it I would; but since I can't, here are a few links I found that may help with your search for someone to move the houses:

While in Oklahoma, there was a class action suit wherein a whole neighborhood was to be moved and the property used as a greenbelt. Because there were many homes involved (as it sounds is happening in your area), the house movers were moving houses nonstop and charged $7,000 just for the move off the existing lot.

Wow - that was quick! Four replies in 40 minutes...

I thought about posting this in the beginners forum, but the name is bird-dogging beginners forum, and this doesn't fall under any other topic. I'd copy my original post and post it there, but don't want to get jailed for posting the same thing on more than one forum...

I'm most heartened by jtmhomebuyers comment - since there are so many, maybe they have some deal. I know that if they don't sell these houses, they'll probably just doze em, and that's a shame.

I guess my main question was how much I should expect to pay for a house alone (not the lot) and how much should I expect to pay for the move - all that together compared to building a brand new building on my lot...

I know nobody can give me an exact answer without lots of info, but I was kinda looking for ballpark figures. I think I will post a similar question on the beginners forum, though. (I wasn't sure which forum my post should fall under).

Thanks for all the info and the prompt replies!!!

Make sure the structure is really able to be moved. Then offer $1000 for each house you want to move.

If the developer is just going to demolish them anyway and remove the debris, you may be giving him a profitable alternative.
