Has Anyone Purchased Tax Liens In Louisiana

It is so frustrating trying to get information from anyone in the court house (New Orleans) regarding this topic. Everyone has that deer caught in the headlight look on their faces like they have no clue what tax lien sales are.
Has anyone purchased property here this way? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

    Hello,
I have purchased Tax Lein certificates in some of the parishes in North Louisiana. The sales are usually once a year and in most of the north Louisiana parishes they are on a Wednesday in May, June or July. I've never worked in Orleans Parish or any of the south Louisiana parishes. It's become a headache this year because the state requires you to deliver notice AND post notice on the property. (I understand this law may be changed or clarified in the near future). The redemption period is 3 years here but it is actually 5 years (the land owner has an additional two years to redeem in our court system).
You should be able to get some information through the Tax assessor's office or the Sheriff's office in your parish. I've bought over 100 certificates over the past 5 years and most all of them have been redeemed. The interest is pretty good...an initial 5 per cent and one per cent each month.
    Good luck!

Thanks again for the reply after your response I put your suggestion to work and got the only response ever regarding a tax sale. I found out that there is actually a sale taking place on 11/8 (what a lucky shot) I plan to register and be there to witness the opening bids, maybe even purchase my first lien. In case you ever want to look into Orleans Parish Sales they take place every November.
    Thanks again
    Chris

Congratulations! How did the sale go in Orleans Parish? Most of the sales here in North Louisiana are on the second Wednesday in one of the "spring" months (March, April, or May). Good luck!
