Historic District-Joining 2 Lots
I am looking at joining 2 narrow lots together to build one house in a historic district. Last site plan from 1917 had two shotgun shacks that are now completely gone. Lots on both sides of this one have identical road frontage and are almost the same size as this lot would if combined. I cannot see a better use for this lot including from a historic preservation standpoint. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Not sure exactly what your question is:
As to joining two lots you would need to talk to your county/city building department to see if this is even necessary. I frequently see buildings built across more than one lot without actually undoing the prior subdivision.
As to building in an historic district, as long as the prior houses are gone there is no requirement in the Federal historic district law that the new house look like the prior house. Again, whoever administers the historic district should be able to help you out on whether they are going to restrict what this house looks like, etc.

Hmmm, interesting. Is it in Chicago or Mayfair? and where is Mayfair, anyway?
