Georgia MLS Training Institute QUESTION
Hi everyone
First off - whats the advantages/disadvantages of being licensed other than the MLS access
Second - what do they teach in these types of schools.
Third - This school has 3 different types of licenses Agent, Broker, and Appraisers. which do you think would be the best for a private investor
fourth - Is this a good school to go to. (atlanta area)
and
fifth - would you recommend spending time and money to go to a school and get licensed

I will tell you, the real estate licensing class wasn't rocket science, but there is a TON of information in a short period of time, and with me working FT, being 8 months pregnant, and having a toddler at home, it was a lot of work, and sometimes I regret not getting my license and just having it put on hold until I decided what to do with it. I know I'm jumping around from topic to topic, but I've got a baby tugging at me and I'm trying to get this out as fast as I can! There are websites that offer the GA MLS for free. I don't know how complete they are (I'm assuming they are), so I'd check that out. Good luck!
I attended the GA Institute of Real Estate off Hwy 120, I liked it. I did not get licensed because I decided to invest my time and energy into my main goal which was REI, not assisting buyers/sellers, but after talking to some seasoned investors, I know some recommend getting licensed just so you can keep more of the money when you buy/sell your own properties. Off the top of my head I'd say a disadvantage to being licensed is that some homeowners may not trust you, they may think you know too much and will try to take advantage of them. You have to be a licensed real estate agent for 3 yrs before you can take the Broker licensing classes, and to keep your license active you have to take 'X" number of hours of continuing ed per year, if you are willing to do that, I say go for it. I think I may get licensed somewhere down the road, right now I just want to start getting my feet wet with some good properties. I wanted my husband to take the Appraiser and home inspection licensing classes (especially the home inspection class), I thought it would be good for us to have that knowledge firsthand, but he's not too interested, but I'm still working on him.
