Foundation Contractor Or Structural Engineer

I have a property that has a basement with a concrete floor. If you can, picture an area about 10x15, with a major crack in the concrete that has shifted to where it now forms a peak (slopes down on both sides). Because of the shifting, some of the walls on the main floor and the upper floor appear to have been pushed up slightly and have slight cracks in the drywall. Other areas of the basement appear to be ok, and we took a walk around the outside of the house and did not see any cracks in the foundation.

Who should I enlist for advice, a foundation contractor or a structural engineer?

Thanks,
Junoti

Depends on whether you want to fix it or talk about fixing it. I'd talk to the contractor. Very few things cause concrete to break by going UP. Either the rest of the house has settled down or a tree root is trying to grow into your basement.

You will need a structural engineer.

The reason is that a foundation contractor is there to make repairs....the engineer is there to tell you how it happened, the proper way to fix it as well as standing behind his method with insurance to back it up.
