Forming An LLC
My dad is retiring and we are looking to start investing together. We will be buying subject to and selling on a wrap.
I'm trying to set up an LLC but am new to the whole process. Do I need to register a DBA (ex. Anderson Real Estate) and then use the DBA as the name of my LLC (Anderson Real Estate, LLC)?
Any help would be appreciated!
I just formed an L.L.C. Gave my business a name, researched it and filed with the state. Pretty simple. Now I can open a bank account, acquire a business license, etc. with mt L.L.C.
Most DBA are for sole proprietors. If you are establish an LLC, you do not need a DBA filing.
Establishing an LLC, is fairly easy. You can get all the paperwork through your secretary of state.

After doing some research and reading of the pertinent statutes, I've formed a couple of LLCs without any lawyers, courses, or expenses beyond the initial fee to the state. They are single member LLCs, which don't need everything spelled out since I'm unlikely to try to screw or create actionable complications for myself. With others involved some legal advice might be in order. In my state the Secy of State has a simple one page form available online, choose a unique name, send it in with $135, and you're good to go. Get an IEN from the IRS, and you can open accounts, hire workers, etc.
