Finding Vacant Owners

Good evening.

I just got a "red tag" list of houses in my town that are not liveable. What is the best way to find the owners of these vacant houses?

Thanks

OK I will show you mine if you show me yours.

You look at your tax collectors website. Easy way to find this is just put in Yahoo search engine. " County of XXX tax collector"

Then find their website. Then look for public records and then search by the address of the property.

Hopefully you are not one of the countys which do NOT have their public records on the Web.

Ok your turn. How did you find out which propertys have been red tagged?

    Thank you.

In my county in metro Atlanta they are nice enough to tell you an owner over the phone, even give current address for him/her. If you had a few, you could go down and make friends with someone and see how many they would look up for you. Depends on how busy they are. If you can't get it from the address, sometimes having the land lot info will pull it up on the website.
    hope this helps

Here is the Lansign City Assessors web site.
    http://finance.cityoflansingmi.com/assessor/personalprop.asp
Scroll down and look on the right side click on property information program has a place to enter address. I put in an address and it gives the owners name but not address. I guess you could do another search by parcel or owner to get address. Play around with it and see if you can get what you need.

Yea just do what you said then copy the owners name from the first search results.

Then click on search by name. Paste the owners name in there and get their REAL address, you know the one where the tax bill is sent. Then you could write or look up their phone # and call them.

Thank you for all the help!!!

I called the city to find out if they keep a list of vacant houses that were red tagged because of code violation. They said yes.

All it took was a drive down to the office of code compliance and two dollars to buy the list. Easy as that...

I made friends with the City Housing Inspector. I told him that I was connected with about 50 other investors who wanted to rehab the properties and put them back on the market for rentals. This helps get them off his list and out of trouble with his boss. When he gets the list, he prints it out with all the violations, addresses and names on it. If I can't locate the current address of the owner, he referred me to a site that they use to locate owners. If he has located them, he just gives me their phone numbers.
