Find Water Leak , Main Line Under Ground

I have a water leak from the main incoming line, from the meter to the main valve, the pipe are metal and about 2 ft under ground. what is the practice to find the leak?

Do I have to dig along the pipe, it is very long 50ft and a few left /right turns.?

It may be less expensive and would be more thorough to dig a new trench and replacing the main water feed line.

Years ago, in Florida, the main feeds were galvanized pipe, which rusts and rot over time. Must be something in the soil. You will be much better off disconnecting and leaving that pipe in the ground and installing a new PVC main feed line.

    Just my $.02.
