are you providing all the the materials (sheet rock, tape, ect..) or is the contractor??? In ky. where i live with contractor providing all the materials it would run anywhere from 60 cents to 85 cents per sq. ft. and 1 dollar + for commercial jobs.
I was a hanger/ finisher for 12 years.

Here in New York we pay 8 dollars a board to hang and 8 dollars a board to tape. I am a contractor and builder. My guys come with 4 rockers. They put up about 150 boards a day. Each guy should do 50 boards a day. Less of course for ceilings depending on the ceiling heights.
$8 a board? Is that 8' or 12' rock? There's a 50% difference there.
If you are a casual rehabber, in other words, only doing a job here and there, you can save big by parting out the job. Buy the sheetrock yourself whereever you find the best price and hire some strapping youths to stock it in. Call a finisher and get him to recommend a hanger, usually finishers either do both or have preferred hangers and the price/job is better. The last time I built a new house, hanging/finishing cost me 30 cents but that was 4 years ago and this is Arkansas. Shop around but be sure to see the finishers work before buying - there are some real slobs in the business. (I was a hanger/finisher many years ago.)
