Donate House To Fire Department
Kirk Herbstriet (espn - College Gameday) just bought an expensive house in an upscale area near Columbus, donated it to the local fire department, they burned it down as a 'residential fire training house' and I ASSUME he was able to take a generous tax deduction for the donation.
Has anyone heard of or done this? It seems like a great way to save on demolition costs if it is the case..
I work for the Technical College system in Minnesota...this is the practice here. While, they do not donate the estate for this, they do allow for us to burn the house (the owner now would not have any demo costs) and we use it as a training effort for local fire departments. I am not sure if there are tax benefits for the homeowner.
