Does – Could – Would This Work? HOW

All of us try to figure out how to legally save on taxes. I am wondering how I can count a trip to Huntsville AL as a tax write off. Guess I am looking for someone who buys, sells, rents real estate who would give me some time so I can count it as a business trip. I have rental property in MO and want to know if there is anyone around Huntsville AL that I could visit with so I can count the trip as a business trip. I do tax land sales and would be willing to look into that venture in AL and would be willing to share info on MO tax sales. My plan is to be in- around Huntsville from Tuesday July 7, 09 until Saturday night July 12, 09. Is there anyone willing to visit with me and “show me the ropes” of tax sales in AL or any other Real Estate-rental information. I think mostly what I need is some correspondence letters stating that I will come down there, spend some time with someone, and do some research on tax sales.

Anyone willing to help. Of course I want to do this as legal as possible.

Any suggestion if this is doable.

Thanks

NewKid – I stand in admiration of your tax knowledge. Any suggestions

    NewKid _ some details
Primary purpose of trip is to take Mom to The National Taxidermy Association Convention (NTA). She is 85 and can’t drive or travel by herself, has no income except Soc Sec. She depends on me for most things. She is the only living founder of the Association and at her age may not be able to make other NTA conventions. I also used to do Taxidermy work and also sell supplies. You can Google and find the book I wrote “Haynes on Air Brush Taxidermy” by Arco press Michael D. Haynes. The rub – although I have maintained my membership in the NTA I no longer do any taxidermy work and sell very few supplies. Since I have moved into the Real Estate game, kind of left the Taxidermy field, I thought that RE would be a better way to write off the trip. A year or so back my tax lady suggested I get out of Taxidermy and eliminate any income from it as I really do not make any money from working or selling supplies.
The write off idea was just a thought and a hope. I will get mom to the convention regardless of if I can write it off or not. You know – gotta take care of Mom
    Thanks for your response.

Is your mom still actively engaged in the business? If so, then let her take a business expense for the convention.

Thanks for the replies. She got to feeling not so well and we did not make the trip. At 85 yrs old its always a toss up if we go or not.
