Developing Assisted Living Community?

I do not know much about assisted living or nursing homes. I have a colleague that wants to go in and develop an assisted living community.

I need to know what requirements we would need to build and run an assisted living community including:

-Licensing requirements

-building requirements

-What grants, perks, waivers can be absorbed

-facility requirements

-state/federal requirements

-safety issues/requirements

-permit requirements

And anything else that would be geared toward an assisted living facility.

Where can I find this info out? To be honest I do not know where to begin.

If anyone owns a facility or has first hand experience, I would really like to talk to you.

Thanks

Although the senior market is growing, the issues included with working under the strict licensing requirements makes assisted care a risky situation.
You should look into developing an independent senior community.

You got to use the consultation of a specialist. These questions are too important to find the answer around the internet. I can recommend some great guys who can create the best custom research papers ever![ Edited by HollyK on Date 02/05/2010 ]

In what state you have interest in building one ? If in georgia I would be interested in talking to you. There are several levels of assisted living. The nursing home is the last level of assistance. But there are other levels which cater to the senoirs who need little help and not whole day care. There are licesning needs and government restriction but most of them are reasonable for the safety of the seniors. Biggest problem is potential damage lwa suits from the people who live there. Try going to HUD and department of community development in your state to find out more. There are consultants available who help with forming the company as well as getting license. You do not need to build the new big facilities. You can create small facilities from a fairly large ( 3-4bedroom) homes too. There is tremendous need and not enough supply. You can go to section 8 home listing to find the people who already are renting these kind of facilities.
