Surprise- I have a judgement...what do I do?

I just pulled all 3 reports and I found something new on them....A JUDGEMENT FOR A TAX LIEN FROM 1999. Its $1311 and the strange thing is....I have run reports for the last 2 months and they did not show up then....Now, I believe it has to do with my ex-husbands student loans(i was on the paperwork)....should i pay? dispute?...Im confused...is it worth finding out why its been 4 years before they reported?

Is it possible to work out a payment plan that would help my credit score....

I am stumped....

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated....

Well the first thing I would do is dispute it with the credit reporting agencies as "not mine". The question I have is didnt you recieve a summons at anytime stateing that you were being sued??? The reason is this would make it a little easier to know how to follow up. I would also if possible call your ex and see if they are on his reports.

Tuxman...first thank you so much for your reply...

to answer your first questions I never received anything about this,no summons, nothing...as a matter of fact the date it says it was granted...I lived in another part of the state(i was in sacramento and it was filed in san diego)......My ex has been MIA since 1998(the family thinks hes incarcerated no one really knows he was a druggie)so I cant verify on his report....

Someone says state law (CA) is that if we were married at time of debt...im responsible.....I will take your advice and dispute....how can they have a judgement in 1999 that doesnt show up until 2003?.....

    thanks again
