Reed carefully, there are no tricky questions: 8/8

  • flacorps28th January, 2004

8 for 8, but there is one question where their "right" answer is right in theory but wrong in practice, and the real answer is:
    6. Credit repair companies:
A: Can “clean up” your credit by removing accurate, negative information because some such information won't be verifiable, or verified, or the company will just wear down the resistance of the CRA by various means. Happens every day.

8/8 - No hesitation, no guessing. Easy.

  • InActive_Account7th February, 2004

7/8 I did not read the employer question close enoungh.

BK will stay for 10 years but the longer it on your file the less it will count. After 7 years it gets almost no negative points but lenders will still see it.

6/8 Kinda disappointing, I thought I knew more. I missed the marriage one I thought it was merged together.

And I missed the Employer I thought they could pull your credit without consent, I was wrong.

    Dave,
I have enjoyed your many posts. About 5 + years ago, the laws changed so that all BK's stay on the report for 10 years - not the 7 years like it was. It doesn't matter if it was a chapter 7 or 13.

I agree with the quiz. The same technique that you are suggesting - disputing valid claims as false can also be done for free by the consumer. Spending money for an agency to try to "repair" your credit is a waste of money.
    Just my 2 cents

6/8 got the bankruptcy answer right...been there done that!

  • sKauGhTiEe20th March, 2004

I recieved a 6/8 Had no idea about this:

Under what circumstances are consumers entitled to a free credit report for a credit bureau?

    Oops, your answer was incorrect.
    The answer is D.
Consumers are entitled to a free credit report if they:
    1) have been denied credit, insurance or employment as a result of their credit report,
    2) live in Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, or Vermont,
    3) believe identity fraud has resulted in inaccuracies on their report,
    4) will be applying for unemployment or 5) are receiving welfare assistance. The Fair Credit Reporting Act mandates that consumers who have been denied credit have the right to a free credit report. Additionally, the states mentioned above maintain laws that allow residents to receive one free credit report per year.

Depends where you go to get your credit report. If you request directly from one of the big three, it can't be disclosed elsewhere. No possible problem for you whatsoever.

A "Hard Pull" is seen by anyone who looks at your report, and indicates that you are seeking credit, insurance, or opening a bank account. It costs a few FICO points up front, over time the points come back to you until at 25 months, it's off your reports.

A "Soft Pull" is not seen by others ... just by you ... and shows you who's been doing account reviews, and/or evaluating whether to try to sell you a card or mortgage or insurance or whatever. It has no bearing on your credit (costs no FICO points, won't be seen by a manual underwriter.

A "Consumer Disclosure" pull is only seen by you and the CRA. It has no bearing on your credit, and won't be seen by anyone else.

What you want to avoid is accidentally going through a service that sells you your own credit report, but does hard pulls instead of consumer disclosure pulls.
