i haven't gotten 1 lead from them for people selling thier homes, but i've gotten more than i can handle for my buyers list! craiglist is sweet. matter of fact, someone used my ad, word for word yesterday in the same section i use it in... ugh! i was ticked off. but i still got 2 more replies today, so no sweat!

That is good to hear. What section do you advertise in. Also, what cities are you found most effective.

I advertised a rental and a lease option on there and got more response than the local paper.

I also however got a few other sellers that copied my ads word for word. Some people are just too damn lazy to write up their own. But hey craigslist is free so I have no other complaints.

    craigslist (dot) org
there is a list of cities on the right; choose the one that you are interested in.
It is a message board; classified advertising board that operates for free.

Craigslist is a free, online site that allows you to post messages in a slew of different areas... such as personals, items for sale (including real estate), services, groups, etc. I use craigslist here in california to search for properties, look for individuals in pre-foreclosure, etc. Problem is, now that you wrote about it, so will everyone else (lol!). You have to be cautious when posting to craigslist because if a few people decide that it's spam, the democratic process will boot your message right off the system and you'll get an email telling you why. I just had this done recently.

By the way, it's http://www.craigslist.com (and possibly http://www.craigslist.org ... never checked). It's regional by city, although the regions are currently only the larger cities. You do have the ability to serach in other regions.

Okay, now that you all know, everyone stay away! (just kidding)

Craigslist is awesome. Every single apartment I've ever rented has come from that website and I have a bunch of friends that regularly find properties to buy through it. I am starting to sort through myself.

NYC? That is good to know, I have a friend who wants to start investing in pre-foreclosures there. Do you know anything about the short sale market there?

homebuyer13: NYC is a tough and competetive market, but there's also a lot of properties and the local economy has not exactly been thriving, especially unemployment-wise, so there's plenty of opportunities.
