Cosign On A Lease - Is It A Bad Idea
Has anyone ever rented to someone who has to have a cosigner on the lease? My instinct tells me to just reject them. The guy is 45 years old and has no credit history so he wants to have his sister who is a well educated accountant cosign the lease for him.
I have had a few. One successful contractor is co-signing for his two college-age daughters. So far, this is working out well. The other was not so good. Father co-signed for druggy daughter.
I am not sure you have to worry much about future law suits if you reject this person and accept another with a co-signer in the future. The fundamental issue is no credit history. Now watch as posts show up about co-signer discrimination suits!
