contracter contract question
I used to work for a company that performed compaction tests on the soil at site where there where putting in roads and/or pipes. The foreman never liked failing a test because it meant they had re compact everthing and if they did not meet there deadline, they would be fined for each day over it. My question is, can I put the same kind of thing in the contract that I have my contractors sign?
Thank you for any answers you can provide.
Hi Sanders,
Obviouslyyour goal is to have the job complete in a timely manner. As a contractor, I stipulate in my contract the amount of time I estimate to complete the job. I also put that delays for material, wx or acts of God are not included in the the time frame.
A smart contractor will want to complete the job as quickly as possible. If you are acting as the GC yourself then be aware that some subcontractors are using your job as a "fill-in" and their loyalty will often be to their main GC's.
I suggest you set up a "Flow Chart" (time schedule) before work begins and cordinate with your subcontractors letting them know when they are expected.
You should also realize that they also have deadlines to meet from other jobs,
so delays in other jobs due to wx etc., will have a large part to play in your job.
Contact me if you have further questions on scheduling or contracting.
Good Luck
Jeff
