Does a house built on a concrete slab foundation need gutters?

No need for gutters. Gutters are a nice touch, but probably 90% of the properties we buy with concrete slab floors do not have gutters.

I agree with the previous poster. I also attach drainage hoses to teh downspouts and carry the water away from the house to the street so it can discharge to the sewer.

You might consider gong to city hall and ask to read the city ordnances on the job description/duties of the inspector. We had situations similar to this (sewer inspection) so I went to city hall, read all I could find, and sure enough, there is a time frame the inspectors have to reply to our request. I now do two things. First, I call for the inspector (phone) and then I immediately send an email to city clerk requesting an inspection, noting that I have already called the inspector but just wanting to make sure he has the right address etc. This email gives at least some written documentation of when I made my request.

Great advice! Especially as I can walk to all the government offices for the city and state from the house I am working on- only a few blocks!

They will be seeing me tomorrow...

Our inspections are almost never more then two days after you call to schedule it.

Building inspectors (BI) can be a pain. I was interested in a house but the BI had condemned the house. I went to the office to ask what was wrong with the house. I was told, “Sorry, I didn’t inspect that house, the other inspector did”. Oh, he’s been out sick for a while and we don’t know anything about that house. I ask what would happen if the BI died. Would it have to be re-inspected or would they be able to find the first BI’s paper work. Well, I have been waiting about 2 weeks now to find out why the property was condemned. Seems like the city wants to condemn lots of properties in that area, get the properties real cheap then sell or give the property to a developer and have him build new houses there. Emanate Domain at its best.
