Commercial Lending

I formerly made my living in residential lending and got into residential investments which has taken a large amount of time in the last 12 months and forced me into other employment.

I have read alot about commercial lending drying up and the challenges posters have had with "direct lenders" in the marketplace.

I am interested in thoughts people may have on getting into commercial loan brokering. It sounds like I would need a strong lender given the current marketplace.

Thoughts?

Maybe start at a bank, become a business banker, gain some experience that way, then start brokering. The loan brokering business is now under a lot of stress - a lot of mortgage brokers have closed shop. Others have been forced to take on losses from loans they had underwritten and had gone bad. Yet, another group is in bankruptcy.

Major business lenders like CIT, which used to work with brokers are having serious problems - they got some financing or they would have been in bankruptcy court.

The more I think about the more I like the bank idea.
