Collections

I am in the process of paying off something that has already gone to collections. I will be done this month. My question is currently the vendor does not show up on my credit report now, is there any thing I can do to ensure that once the debt is paid in full that they won't report the account to the credit bureaus? I was considering sending a letter to them PRIOR to my last payment asking them not to do this, but will I just be pushing buttons? oh oh

You might try putting a restrictive endorsement on your last check to them saying they can't cash if they will report the debt to any CRA.

But IMHO, if they haven't reported yet and they get paid, they aren't going to bother to report.

DOCUMENT - and file in your cabinet. Create a summary of the payment history and check copies to prove your payments. This is a measure 'just in case' something in the future appears.

Finally, send the last payment via certified mail, indicating with a letter that the payment obligation has been statisfied with the enclosed payment.
