Charge Offs

My credit report showed a charge off. I paid the charge off and it now shows it as a paid charge off with a I9 status. How do I remove this from my credit or how long before it gets removed? It has been 3 years.

The only way to remove it without the cooperation of the credit grantor is to dispute it. Dispute it with all three credit bureaus. Other than that, 4 more years for a total of 7. Some take as long as 10.

Of course, you should start with the credit grantor. Let them know you are trying to purchase a house, and ask them if they would be willing to remove the entry.[ Edited by bnorton on Date 09/11/2004 ]

Thats the whole issue that I think is BS. In terms of your credit report and score only a non-paid chargoff is no better than a paid one.

I would guess to say that only a very small percentage of chargoffs do get paid off but I don't see the modivation for folks wanting to clear up debts owed.

Quote:Some take as long as 10. Only a bankruptcy can legitimately stay on 10 years.
