Carpet Installation - Help!!!
I am looking to purchase a 2 fam. It currently has 1,400 SF of subfloor and will need to have carpet installed. I cannot find an estimate of what this will cost to do ANYWHERE.
Anybody have some input or somplace for me to get a rough estimate so that I can crunch the numbers w/ new carpet figured in?
I realize that this is a general question and I am only looking for general numbers. Once I decide to move forward with the deal, I will use more specific numbers.

Carpet should run you around 75-1.25 per square foot, including padding, depending on quality. Always check out the carpet outlets as opposed to places like Home Depot or Lowe's.
Installation should run about .60-1.00 per square foot, depending on whether the floor is ready for carpet or whether the installers have to remove/haul old carpet or prepare the floor for the new. If you don't have carpet/flooring down now, install costs should be to the lower end of the range.
These figures are mine and are pretty fair estimations for my area. Double check for your area to make sure.

I've carpeted a few mobile homes and have used Lowes to do it. A carpet store or outlet might have been cheaper, but they had six months no int/no payment financing while I was getting the project done. Home Depot Has similar deals, you may find a carpet store that does the same. The carpet that is in the store will be your cheapest choice and could be as low as $.50 / sqft plus installation and materials. Twice I've gotten "free padding" as an incentive, once I didn't. The install and material was about $1.00 /sqft , the pad added about $.25/sqft. All the carpet in the store was 12' wide and I had some rooms that were 14'+ in the mobile, so I ordered 15' wide carpet and choose the style and color. The capet was as low as $.99/sqft. So the cheapest could ave been about $1.50/sqft installed using display carpet and the free pad, I paid about $2.00 - $2.25/sqft installed.
Like I said, you can probably find cheaper carpet out there, but I needed the 6 month free financing. It's easier to pay for once you have a tenant or buyer in place.

So you can carpet a 9'x12' (3ydx4yd or 12 sq yards) for less than $25.00 I can't buy a remnant that cheap let alone get it installed and I live in the carpet capital f the world.

Bexo - figure on the low end of $1.75 per square foot to top end of $2.50 a square foot. Here in Colorado I can get very nice rentable carpet for about $2.00 a square foot.
This price includes, removal of the old, disposal of the old, pad, installation, and of course the new carpet.
$2.00 per square foot should be a number that will help you figure your costs very nicely.

Here in NC I can have decent carpet installed between $15 - $18.00 per yard........(1.66 - 2.00 sq ft. ......turn key)

I pay $5.78/sq yd for a 29oz poly plush carpet that is very good.
6# pad runs $1.71/yd
installation runs 4.00/yd
This transfers out to $11.49/yd or $1.28/SF
For a better grade carpet (40oz nylon plush) I pay at most $10.65/yd (this is cut price).
There is that new twist whatever stuff that is really popular but I haven't had anything quality enough to warrant that expense.

I always use a commercial outlet for commercial carpeting in all my rentals. They are cheapest . I will buy in baulk then get a contractoe to install. I just did a 3000 square foot duplex for $900.00. Carpet, padding and installation. That carpet is so easy to clean and replace. LORI
