can any tell me if there is a min. distance a home has to be built from a railway? not sure if it changes from state to state but this one would be in east tennessee.
the railroad will have a deeded tight of way for their rail line. Find out how wide that easement is. You can't build anything permenant inside the easement and check with your county/city to see if there is a building setback line added on top of the easement line. It really depends on whether the railroad Co. actually owns the land they are using or if they just have an easement.
A few years ago I did a room addition for a friend....he had a railroad running along his back property line......we had to stay 100 feet away from the tracks and zoning came out after the job was complete to ensure it was enforced.
Check with the local zoning department as well as with the rail road....also check the deed.
