Best Vinyl Siding Brands And Sources?
Since the windows thread has proven to be quite helpful I figured we could build some good resources for quality sources of common materials. Also any tips or helpful hints that you've found will be useful.
What suppliers and/or brands of vinyl siding have you found to be the best combination of quality, style and price? The best value?
Dont get caught on brand name with siding....its like the windows industry....there are so many manufactures out there to choose from.
For me I go with a company that provide service and price. I never go with the big name brands unless I have a client that insist upon it......other wise you are paying for name and advertising.

As a GC I second the Yank. As an investor on my own properties I go with the most economical that meets my needs..

Thanks for the replies guys. I agree with using the most economical siding.
More specifically, what sources have you found to be the best for economical siding?
I would never use vinyl siding it devalues the proerty in GA I always use Hardi-Plank from James Hardie. Vinyl is just covering an existing problem and buyers are getting more informed all the time.[ Edited by NC_Yank on Date 11/02/2004 ]
Hey,
Why do you say that vinyl devalues a house is GA?
I have not found that to be the case.

That _does_ sound a little biased... One could argue that ANY re-siding is designed to cover stuff up. That said, I'm all ears to hear why the Hardi-plank is better than vinyl. I can see why both are better than the old wood boards, unless it's a historical place or something.
Can you give us more info as to WHY you think it's better?

Vinyl devalues the property????
Thats rediculous..........the brick industry has been saying the same non sense for years. I get peeved when I hear the silly advertisements about brick only being 5% more then vinyl. While brick does have numerous advantages over vinyl, lets be honest.....price is not one of them.......its 300 - 500% more then vinyl.............not 5%.
In the construction field (as well as life)one needs to learn to separate truth from hype.
Hardi Plank and other similar materials are more expensive and you end up spending thousands of dollars, continually, in painting over their product.
Which tells you there is very little difference between masonite siding and hardi plank in regards to upkeep.
Go with what in practical and inexpensive.
