Go to www.Banditsigns.com. They are a company out of Texas. From what I can tell, they are priced well. If you use them, let me know your findings. I was planning on making an order this week. Good luck.
How would one possibly go about making the signs themselves to save a little in advertising? I thought posterboard but that wouldn't hold up I wouldn't think. Any suggestions?

I got 100 signs from them for about 200 dollars and my signs are great. Hope this helps. They only took less than 2 weeks to get them to me. So, if time is short..they are quick[ Edited by pejames on Date 03/01/2004 ]
lewis28,
You might want to do some reading here and look in the marketing forum.
Try this one too..it's the encyclopedia. Great source of info. The link is on the bottom ot the page here. http://www.thecreativeinvestor.com/Encyclopedia-index.html
It's those little, sometimes big signs you see on the side of the road. It's just another form of marketing. Think of them as mini billboards that get thrown away.
Kelly,
If you wanted to make your own signs, maybe you could try posterboard on a wooden board and post. Although, you might look into buying them instead... might be the cheaper, hassle-free route.
you can do your own signs but if you want an honest opion here it is....first off it's gonna cost around $50 bucks to make them yourself (cardboard paper, spray paint, and stencils) but they'll be flimsly and will get destroyed with rain on anything else because after all they're just paper. second, your signs will look cheap and if i were a distressed seller i wouldn't call a # on a cheap sign that looks untrustworthy. But like everything else it's your choice. I say pay a little bit extra and buy some that will last and will look professional.
To Kelly - I agree with the last poster. Quite simply, a first impression is everything in business. In ANY business, of course, but we're talking a unique situation here. Even though you're the 'Buyer' in the ultimate transaction, you're still the seller of your products and services to the customer, who will become a 'seller' once they decide to deal with you.
Point is, in cold-selling/advertising, until you close the deal, you're either a 'No,' or a 'Maybe.' Don't give them any reason to put you in the 'No' column, until you've at least had a chance to make your case in person. Which means you spend what you have to to increase your chances of getting them 'in the door.' Only THEN do you cut corners & try and negotiate them (and your expenses on buying their property) down.
I say, spend the extra bucks when it comes to advertising. It'll pay off.
I buy 100 of the yellow coraplast and 100 of stepstacks. It costs about 83 cents a sign. Also put stencils together with masking tape and then paper around the edges. I have four. Keep them in the trunk, throw them on a coaplast, spray them with red paint, put in a stack and I am gone. Now I do not do high volumne. Mostly for houses that I already own. I might add an arrow for direction or a 3/2 in the corner.
Mine do suffer from some over spray around the letters. and my letters are pretty boxy. bought them at home depos. My friend bought more rounded letters at an office supply store. He set them up on a poster board and then cut them out with a razor. the poster board lays flatter against the coraplast then my taped together stencil letters.
Sometimes if it is a busy intersection and my signs keep getting pulled. I use a really large permanent market and hand write the sign. It seems that hand written signs do not get pulled as often. They are probably seen more as a mom and pop and not a business. of course this is not true for SELL YOUR HOUSE FOR CASH.
From what I've seen.........there are tons of bandit signs in the areas I farm in now......and not one of those bandits has my number on it......so I wanted to get everyones input and pick a sign to help build a buyer/seller list. If a person in one of those "situations" needs my help.......they'll call.
You might try looking into the local platics company there in Waco and see if any of them can sell you sheets of plastic that you can cut and take to a design shop and have them printed. Might save 50%?

Was my question just too stupid to answer? Is that why it is getting no response. I am really serious about it. I thought I could do them myself.
Kelly
Not stupid at all, just impatient! Wait, you'll get plenty of replies...........
