Try getting a secured credit card and working to rebuild with that. You can also try this method: Go to a bank with $2000 and tell them you want a personal loan. You will guarantee the loan by opening a CD with them. Open the CD and get the loan. Pay back the loan and you start building your credit. This is pretty simple but I believe it works. You may also want to get those "black marks" off your record by contacting the collector and try to settle. Hope this helps.
I agree with getting a secured credit card, or maybe even two. Also, you may be able dispute the hospital charge, as legally you were a minor. It may take a little while, but you can definitely built your credit up.
Thank you all for the replies! I found a site that has some validation letters that i got one from, thanks tony. However, since i have two collections from the same agency, should i list both on one validation letter or send two seperate ones to the same place?
u can list them on the same letter. what site did u find this letter on? the best one i have found is www.creditboards.com. if u want to post the letter here when ur done (x out personal information) or email it to me, i will look it over for u. i have done this dozzens of time. it has to be perfect to get results. just if u want it.
that letter is ok in theory, but way too long with too much info. let me ask u... would u tell a hit man how to off u? then do not tell the collector what u want them to do to hold u accountable.
also, do not tell them u rcvd any notices from that long ago. it tells them u knew about it. the key is to let them figure out what they need to send u to validate. i bet u get deleted 1st try this other way. so i have changed ur letter, and i encourage u to use the new one:

To Whom It May Concern:
I would like to settle this matter at the earliest possible opportunity. In order to facilitate the process, I must request that you validate the alleged debt as reported to credit reporting agencies by, (insert Co. name), (accnt #, for your name).
Be advised that I am requesting validation, i.e. complete, competent and verifiable evidence that I have had some contractual obligation to pay this alleged debt to you as associated with this tradeline.
This letter will also serve as a limited cease and desist order that all future correspondence be in writing via postal mail.
I would like to hear from you within 30 days from the tracked and confirmed delivery of this letter to either answer this request for validation or to remove the negative tradeline notations from my credit reports. I trust that you will comply within 30 days.
I look forward to a timely resolution to this matter.

The idea here is to get the credit bureau to contact the collector, and when they verify the info listed, u have the collector in a violation of the FDCPA becuz they cannot continue collection activities on accnts in dispute, and having it on your report constitutes collection activity, and so does them verifying this debt with the credit bureaus. These violations are worth $1k apiece if u went to court. Now u don’t want to collect, in fact there is no intention of it. U just have them to use as leverage if u need it to get the tradeline deleted from ur report. Kind of like a secret weapon.
Don’t get crazy citing FDCPA secs and that in ur first letter to the collector. They most likely don’t have a clue. U need to be fairly nice but firm. If u have to send a 2nd letter, then u start citing secs, violations etc and such, getting nastier each time. Be sure u send all letters CRRR to keep a dated paper trail. If it’s not deleted in 30-45 days, let me know and I’ll help u further. If u have questions, email me.
so the knuckle heads at the colleciton agency called me this morning, wanting to verify my SSN#, and that they have 4 open claims with me, even though only 2 are on the CRAs website. I am going to send that second letter you posted tony, unfortunately i sent the first one before i read your reply. Now one of these listings, i was a minor and I am listed along with my father. Is there something i can do to get this one off my record?
Find a friend with a charge system and have them do it. You will have to pay the 1 or 2% that they get charged if you do it that way.
Or call the card and find out what BT offers they have available.
Why does that last comment seem like its not legal? Just wondering....=) im sure credit card companies have protection against that somewhere in the terms and conditions
For awhile people looking for airline miles were buying Wal-Mart gift cards. They would use the credit card (which would get them miles) to buy the gift cards. Then return the cards then use the cash to pay off the credit card.
Word spread and lots of people were doing it so now Wal-Mart has put controls in place to prevent this.
So they were getting cash from a credit card and the transaction was posted as a purchase.

Buying a money order usualy will still post as a cash advance.
If you buy gift cards usualy they will show as a purchase.
