Asbestos Siding
Have any of you bought a property and the siding is those big Asbestos Siding shingles.
We look at a four-plex yesterday, (actually 2 duplexes on same property) and both are older with this asbestos siding.
They are not falling off or anything, they dont need repalced -yet-. My husband was really concerned about them though regarding future problems. We know that if they need removed in the future it is a huge job and very costly. My husband is an Ironworker and has worked in areas where they were removing asbestos and says it is really a huge ordeal.
I just wanted any input from anyone who has delt with this.
Thanks
Kim
I have a house now with asbestos shingles. I plan on just painting over them to make the house look cleaner
This has been the subject of much discussion.
Check your local government regulations in the area, but chances are, these type of asbestos shingles do not pose a major threat when removed unless they are cut and dispersed into the air. You can have them removed at a reasonable price and disposal isn't nearly as bad either. Personally, unless they are lots of them that are damaged, I would keep them and seek out in various places for tiles that would allow you to replace any damaged ones. In terms of durability, what you have now is better than most of the replacements you would use.

You can put siding up right over the shingles.
They are not a problem......it's the "friable" asbestos that has posed a problem.
Paint over it and be done.

If you like the siding I agree just put it over it, the other factor that no one else mentioned is MAN is asbestos a good insulation... keep it side over it and reap the beni's

I hear they are changing the law around here (Mass) and you will not be able to side over it soon. So get going on it...
