Architect
I wanted to add an upstairs to an existing ranch. The builder suggested I should use a design from an architect so that the entire house has a flow and it doesn't stick out. He introduced me to an architect who works for an architectural firm that the builder's brother owns. He said he will work at his own time and give me a discount. We don't have a written agreement and I paid him a part of the money we agreed on. He gave us a first draft of the design that I was not happy with. He went back to the drwwing board and is taking too long. I called him today and he says he didn't realize it was so much work. He tries to blame me saying he thought I just needed a design for upstairs addition, not the remodeling of the entire house.
Does anyone have any suggestion how I handle this situation legally? I don't have a written contract with him.
In the absense of a contract, you must look to your state law on how this is handled. You should definatly consult an attorney. If it was a small amount of money you may want to cut your losses and move on.
