I saw an add in a magazine for small airplane pilots. There was a device that emits a high pitched sound that birds avoid (for airplane hangers, etc). Don't remember what it was called, but you may be able to get one. Not nearly as fun as a shotgun though! You might call a pet store, animal control, or vetrinarian and see what they'd recommend.
Have you tried scrubbing the deck? I'd start with a lot of water, then a course brush, and then an SOS pad and paint to finish off. I can't imagine that it will be that tough. Gross, but not tough.
...I must admit, I'm still laughing over the title of your post! [ Edited by hibby76 on Date 03/04/2004 ]
Call a critter control company and have them recommend a solution. Rent a pressure washer and clean the patio and deck, the rental place can recommend chemicals that will clean the surfaces.
Thanks for the replies and glad i could supply the laughs !
Not sure if this would work with chickens but our neighbors up north have problems with geese and ducks on their dock. They got some of that fluttery, tinsel looking party decoration stuff and strung it between the posts...the birds don't like it and stay away. Chickens are tamer though and might not be afraid of it.
good luck!
What you really need is a few good coyotes!! *lol*
If it's not cost prohitive or unattractive, maybe try chicken wire -- It must have got it's name for a reason??? Might prevent the beer cans from coming over to the yard too.
OR if you can't fight it. Let the chickens nest and offer free farm fresh eggs at your open houses. You might find a buyer who is of like mind with the neighbors.
Brush with lots of water w/bleach! Let it soak for a while and it will come off real easy.
How to keep them from coming over?
Only a high fence will keep them away, about 12 feet at least!, remember they have wings and can fly!
Or, talk to the neighbors and have them put the chickens in a coop with a wire ceiling/roof. Roof ir necessary, they do fly and pretty high too! I know, I have chickens, and I keep them in a large coop with wire over the top, so they cannot get out; I do it to keep them from being eaten by coyotes, racoons, possums, etc. and to keep them off the deck and patio.
I did clean my deck and patio with water w/bleach, not a spot to be found!, did this a couple of years ago.
